The director of a distillery in Rampur, India, has been held in connection with the suspected murders of two tax officers, local reports claim.

Two Indian excise constables have been found dead at a distillery based in the Uttar Pradesh state

According to Business Standard, the officers were found unconscious at the Uttar Pradesh-based distillery on Monday (2 March) but were later declared dead at hospital.

Meanwhile, Times of India reports that the family members of the deceased officers have accused the distillery’s director of murder and criminal conspiracy under the Indian Penal Code.

Both publications report the constables have been accused of attempting to steal liquor from the distillery.

Rampur district magistrate Chandra Prakash Tripathi has ordered an inquiry into the incident and asked for its report to be submitted within 15 days, TOI claims.
