Diageo Australia unveils $21.5m warehouse

Diageo has unveiled a AU$21.5 million warehouse in Sydney, which it claims “cements” the group’s commitment to manufacturing in Australia in the long term.

Diageo’s new warehouse in Sydney’s western suburbs can store 22 million bottles for the company

The “state-of-the-art” warehouse in Huntingwood, Sydney, which has the capacity for 22 million bottles, allows Diageo to bring the majority of its storage in-house.

Joe Russon, supply director for Diageo Australia, said the investment not only delivers “considerable” cost and carbon emission savings, but underlines Diageo Australia’s focus on local production.

“Every year Diageo Australia produces close to 100 million litres of world famous brands in Australia, where we’ve been manufacturing for 22 years this year,” he said.

“While the tax environment in Australia sometimes makes it difficult to compete on a level playing field, we are committed to investing in our supply footprint for as long as it is sustainable to do so.”

Diageo Australia forecasts its new warehouse to reduce carbon emissions by 110 metric tonnes per year, contributing to Diageo’s target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50% from direct operations by 2020.
