Beckham takes over Wellington Arch with Haig

Retired football star David Beckham has launched a pop-up cocktail bar for his Haig Club whisky brand at iconic London landmark Wellington Arch.

David Beckham attended the opening of Haig Club London last night – a pop up bar in London’s Wellington Arch

Beckham, who launched single grain Scotch whisky Haig Club last year in collaboration with UK drinks giant Diageo and music mogul Simon Fuller, welcomed celebrity guests to Haig Club London, a pop-up bar which will be based at the Hyde Park landmark for one week.

The bar is described as a “modern interpretation” of the British private clubs that featured in the brand’s original “clubman series” of advertisements in the 1920s.

Its interior has been designed by Amanda Sheppard while the venue’s food menu has been created by Brett Graham, Mike Robinson and Alex Harper, of the Michelin starred Harwood Arms.

Signature cocktails served at Haig Club London have been crafted by drinks consultancy firm Sweet and Chilli in collaboration with Haig Club global brand ambassador Ewan Gunn.

To mark the occasion, Wellington Arch will be illuminated blue for the week, mirroring Haig Club’s square blue bottle.

Created at the Cameronbridge distillery, Haig Club is a no-age-statement whisky comprised of a variety of aged whisky from three types of cask: first-fill, rejuvenated and refill Bourbon barrels.

In January this year, the brand’s first TV advertisement, starring Beckham, was cleared of complaints lodged by Alcohol Concern.
