‘Oldest’ Bols genever launches in US

Lucas Bols has launched what it claims to be the oldest genever available in US retail since Prohibition.

Bols Genever is one of the oldest spirits brands still in production

The Dutch spirits and liqueurs group has released a six-year-old Bols Genever exclusively in New York, which until now has only been available to patrons of The Hawthorn and Eastern Standard in Boston.

Unlike its core range which is matured in French limousine casks, the limited edition has been rested in American oak, which the group claims gives the spirit “complex notes” of vanilla, wood and spice.

A four-year-old version has also been available in The Grange restaurant in Sacramento and The Cosmopolitan empire in Las Vegas.

Piet van Leijenhorst, master distiller of Lucas Bols, said: “This is a very special barrel because it is one of very few barrels of Bols Genever that was aged in American Oak.  If one is looking for a unique gift or a chance to taste a small batch, rare genever, the original Dutch spirit, then this is the best option that one can possibly have in the US.”

The expression has been bottled at 42% abv and is available for an RRP of US$46.99 for one-litre through drinkupNY.com in most states.
