Tips for Jesus awards biggest tip to bartender
By Amy HopkinsThe altruistic Tips for Jesus movement is thought to have awarded its most generous tip to-date, with one Arizona bartender receiving US$11,000.
A bartender in Arizona is thought to have received the biggest ever tip in the Tips for Jesus campaignOn 27 December, Clint Spotleson, bartender at Crudo in Phoenix, received a US$1,000 tip on a US$330 bill, and was later given a US$10,000 tip on a US$89.89 bill.
“Everything was starting to wrap up on a Saturday night,” Spotleson told the Republic. “We had just started breaking down the bar and he comes strolling in.
“And he’s really easy-going. He just had a few glasses of Pappy Van Winkle 23, then sat there with a friend and they just talked.”
Spotleson added that he shared the generous tip among the restaurant and bar staff.
The campaign, which has more than 84,000 followers on Instagram, has been spreading throughout the US in recent months, providing handsome tips to unsuspecting members of the customer service industry.
As part of the campaign, anonymous people leave extravagant tips and post pictures of their donations on the Tips for Jesus Instagram account.
Many suspect the person behind the phenomenon is Jack Selby, former Vice-President of PayPal.
In October 2013, one US bartender was given a lottery ticket as a tip and won US$17,500.
