Scottish potato vodka Ogilvy launches in UK
By Melita KielyScottish farm Ogilvy has partnered with Heriot-Watt University to launch a small batch, single estate Scottish potato vodka in the UK.
Small batch Scottish potato vodka Ogilvy is now available to purchase in the UKOgilvy Vodka was founded by Graeme Jarron and his wife Caroline and developed by Abhishek Banik, distiller and technical production manager of Heriot-Watt University (HWU), over the past two years.
Maris Piper potatoes grown on the farm are used to make the spirit and provide a “creamy mouthfeel and rounded flavour”.
Located at Hatton of Ogilvy Farm, Ogilvy is distilled in a column pot still and matured for a week before being charcoal-filtered at a drip speed to create vodka that is “delicate, void of any harsher noses”.
“Our product begins with the best quality produce, utilising the knowledge of four generations of farmers on Hatton of Ogilvy Farm,” a statement from Ogilvy Vodka read. “This is where tradition and heritage meets with modern science, and our distiller turns our humble, rustic potatoes into our beautifully crafted spirit.
“Our singular spirit is warm and welcoming, smooth and sweet.
“Its neutral essence makes it a great option for cocktails and a natural choice for the gluten-intolerant. Yet it’s a smart pick for anyone wishing to try a vodka that offers purity of palate alongside hidden depths of flavour.”
Just 400 bottles of Ogilvy Vodka are produced each week and are available to purchase from selected retailers including Bon Vivant Companion in Edinburgh and Cork and Cask at an RRP of £34.99.
Last November, Arbikie Distillery launched what it claims is Scotland’s first single estate potato vodka.
