The Kentucky Distillers’ Association has appointed Diageo’s Pauline Rooney as its new chairwomanRooney, who is vice president of distillation, maturation and engineering at Diageo’s US arm, will serve in the role until the end of December this year, taking over from Heaven Hill’s vice president of operations, Joe Fraser.
Working on the group’s “Bourbon 2020” strategy, Rooney will help outline the five-year vision of the group and the wider Bourbon industry.
“I’m proud to say that the KDA has far exceeded the goals and objectives outlined in our last strategic plan from 2009,” she said.
“With the Kentucky Bourbon renaissance in full swing, and with more distilleries coming to the Commonwealth, it’s time to take a renewed look at our future.
“It’s an honor to serve as chairwoman of this venerable organisation, and I look forward to working with the new generation of distilleries to continue promoting the heritage of our industry while celebrating innovation within it. We truly are stronger when we all work together.”
The KDA Board of Directors selected officers during its annual meeting recently at the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience in downtown Louisville.
Chris Morris, master distiller at Jack Daniel’s Owner Brown-Forman, was appointed vice chairman, and John Rhea, chief operating officer of the Four Roses Distillery, was named secretary-treasurer.
Other board members for 2015 include Rob Samuels, chief operating officer of Maker’s Mark; Rick Robinson, vice president of US supply chain for Wild Turkey; and Joe Fraser, vice president of operations for Heaven Hill.
Founded in 1880, the Kentucky Distillers Association is a trade body representing the interests of distillers in the state.
Its 27 members – the most since the repeal of Prohibition – produce 90% of the world’s Bourbon.
