Facebook plans to stop uploads of drunken photos

Facebook is working on advanced software that will recognise and intervene when users attempt to upload potentially embarrassing drunken photos and statuses on nights out.

Facebook may soon be able to detect drunken photos and intervene to stop users uploading them online

Yann LeCun, a research and machine-learning expert who runs Facebook’s Artificial Intelligence Lab, and his team of researchers hope to create a “digital assistant” that will be built into the website’s system and capable of detecting drunken snaps.

The technology would work by using image recognition software to learn the difference between a person’s sober and drunk face, similar to the one that is able to recognise people’s faces in photos and suggests tagging them.

It would be able to determine what is happening in the photo past simple face recognition and if it deems the picture is intoxicated, it will advise against uploading.

LeCun told Wired: “Imagine that you had an intelligent digital assistant which would mediate your interaction with your friends, and also with content on Facebook.”
