Diageo investigates spider in Smirnoff Gold

Diageo has launched an investigation into claims a man discovered a large dead spider at the bottom of his unopened bottle of Smirnoff vodka.

Diageo is investigating the discovery of a spider inside a sealed bottle of Smirnoff Gold

As reported by the Birmingham Mail, Luke Millard, from the midlands town of Bournville in the UK, purchased three bottles of Smirnoff Gold containing edible gold flakes, however one bottle also contained a dead spider.

“I know Tequila has a worm in it, but I don’t think that a spider is supposed to be in vodka,” Millard told the newspaper.

“We bought the drinks as Christmas presents about three weeks ago, but then my partner spotted the spider – and it was a big one.”

“We haven’t got a clue how it got in there – the bottle was totally sealed. No way were we going to drink out of that.”

Upon receiving Millard’s complaint, Diageo sent him a £40 voucher and launched an investigation into the discovery.

“The investigation into this bottle is ongoing by our dedicated Quality Assurance team,” said a spokesperson for Diageo. “We have apologised for any distress that may have been caused to the consumer and have also given him some vouchers for a replacement bottle.”
