Armed gang steals 15k bottles of whiskey and gin
By Melita KielyAn armed gang stole tens of thousands of bottles of whiskey and gin – including Jameson, Bombay Sapphire and Jack Daniel’s – from a Dublin warehouse in broad daylight.
Thousands of bottles of Jameson Irish whiskey were stolen in an armed robbery in DublinAt least five suspects stole a total of 2,580 six-bottle cases (15,480 bottles) of Jameson Irish whiskey, plus an unknown number of Bombay Sapphire gin and Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey from the Parkwest Industrial Estate in Ballyfemot, Dublin.
Each case and bottle of Jameson carries one of three batch numbers: L428112153, L428016141 or L428016141.
However, the batch numbers of Bombay Sapphire and Jack Daniel’s are not available.
The incident took place on 14 November between 3pm and 4pm and is being investigated by Gardai, who suspect the alcohol – estimated to be worth hundreds of thousands of euros – will be put on sale before Christmas.
Two employees were working in the warehouse when two men entered the building armed iron bars and forced the workers to open the loading bay.
The staff members were tied up and at least three more men arrived at the scene.
Two 40-foot lorries were used to transport the stolen loot and are described as a red cab with a bank of spotlights along the top of the cab and a white sold 40” tri-axle container and white cab lorry with a 40” tri-axle trailer with a blue curtain.
“Investigating Gardai are appealing to members of the public who have already been offered cases or bottles of Jameson Whiskey, Jack Daniel’s Whiskey and/ or Bombay Sapphire Gin from persons other than licensed suppliers of alcohol,” a Gardai spokesman said, as reported by the Irish Mirror.
