Police to repay man for confiscated vodka and gin

Swedish police have been ordered to compensate a man who discovered his confiscated bottles of vodka and gin had been drank then refilled with water.

Swedish police will pay £1,300 in compensation to a man who discovered his confiscated bottled of alcohol had been drank and refilled with water

The man’s stock had been confiscated in 2007 by police who believed he had broke importing laws, bringing large amounts of wine, beer and spirits bought in Germany into Sweden.

However, as reported Nordic news agency Ice News, the man was acquitted four years later and all charges were dropped.

He then went to collect the alcohol from police, finding that not only were some bottles missing and out of date, but 10 bottles of vodka and gin had been drunk then refilled with water.

While no single member of the force has been found guilty of drinking the stock, police have admitted their negligence and will pay the man 16,000 kronor (£1,300) in compensation.
