New Kentucky distillery seeks crowd funding
By Amy HopkinsAn award-winning chef is seeking crowd funding to open a new Bourbon distillery in Henderson County, Kentucky.
Funds are being sought to open the Old Dunbar Distillery in KentuckyJason Girard has launched a Kickstarter campaign to purchase a 19th Century building and turn it into a Bourbon distillery and tasting area. Funds raised will also be used to purchase a handmade copper still and cover opening costs.
“We realise that it takes a long time to produce and age Kentucky straight Bourbon whiskey,” said Girard. “We understand that the process is a labour of love and it takes several years of barrel ageing to do it right.
“Our first priority is to make memorable whiskey that is true to its heritage and worthy of the top shelf.”
Girard said that his great-grandfather, Colonel Felix E. Dunbar, a native of Henderson, delivered both mail and illicit alcohol during Prohibition.
With funding, Girard plans to open Old Dunbar Distillery in September 2015. Click here to visit the distillery’s Kickstarter page.
It was announced earlier this month that a new Bourbon distillery had opened in Kentucky’s Hardin County, marking the return of Bourbon production to the area in 100 years.
