Jura 1984 whisky honours George Orwell
By Becky PaskinWhyte & Mackay is leaning on the legacy of George Orwell’s dystopian novel 1984 for its latest single malt Scotch whisky expression from Jura.
Jura 1984 is inspired by George Orwell’s novel of the same nameJura 1984 vintage has been inspired by the late novelist who penned his famous story of a world governed by “Big Brother” while staying on the Scottish island.
The expression has been matured for 20 years in American oak barrels, before being given a finish in amoroso and apostoles oloroso Sherry butts from Gonzalez Byass.
It is described as having notes of burnt toffee, coffee, banana cake and morello cherries.
Willy Cochrane, Jura distillery manager, said: “Every good malt whisky has a story to tell and Jura’s tale is particularly unique. We’re delighted to add another exciting chapter with the release of this extraordinary limited edition vintage. Jura 1984 Vintage is an uncompromising addition to our range in homage to the island’s most distinguished guest.”
Whyte & Mackay, which was sold to Philippines operator Emperador last month, has bottled 1,984 units of Jura 1984 vintage for global markets.
Each bottle carries an RRP of £750.
