Craft gin and vodka distillery starts production
By Melita KielyA US distillery has started producing craft vodka and gin to tap into the “rising tide” of the spirits market in Atlanta, Georgia.
Old Fourth Distillery in Atlanta, Georgia, in the US, has started producing craft gin and vodkaBrothers Jeff Moore and Craig Moore began working on Old Fourth Distillery – the first distillery in Atlanta since the closure of R.M. Rose Distiller in 1906 – 12 months ago, but only began producing spirits on Monday.
“We’re at this moment where we’ve done everything except what we set out to do, which is actually make booze,” Craig Moore told Atlanta Magazine.
The bottle design – produced in collaboration with Buckland’s The Partnership agency – pays tribute to Atlanta’s spirits industry, from the font which is a nod to the Braves to the image on the back of the Cotton Mill Lofts fro more than 100 years ago.
“We pulled inspiration from elements of the tasting room architecture as well,” Moore added.
With aspirations to revive the distilling industry in Atlanta, the company, which is represented by United Distributors, aims to have products ready to purchase by the middle of December as well as tours and tastings.
“We are hoping to do a clean, simple, effective spirit that pays respect to the old ways of doing things, with the newest technology,” said Jeff Moore. “The spirit industry is a rising tide in Atlanta.
“We know we represent something that’s been lost, so we want to be as much a part of the growing community as we possibly can.”
