Spanish bar to swipe biggest gin variety title

A Spanish bar is hoping to break the Guinness World Record for stocking the greatest selection of gin, with 474 different bottlings available.

Spain’s The Lemon Society is looking to take the Guinness World Record for the largest selection of gin

According to the World Record Academy, The Lemon Society bar in Palencia, Spain, is looking to swipe the world record for selling the most varieties of commercially available gin from the UK’s Old Bell Inn.

The 18th century pub and “gin emporium”, based in Saddleworth, scooped the record in August this year with its 404 different gins.

However, reports claim its title may be taken by The Lemon Society bar, which stocks 40 gin variants from Spain and 57 tonics, with its bartenders able to create more than 27,000 different gin and tonic combinations and cocktails.

“At first I wanted to specialise in four rare gins that nobody else had, but then we caught the bug and we haven’t been able to stop since,” owner Javier San Segundo told World Record Academy.

The title was also formerly held by The Feathers Hotel in Oxfordshire, which was awarded the title in 2012 for its collection of 161 different gins.

Representatives for Guinness World Record have not yet confirmed if The Lemon Society has officially been named as selling the world’s greatest variety of commercially available gin.
