Wild Turkey re-releases popular whiskey mistake

Following its surprising success last year, Gruppo Campari is rereleasing Wild Turkey Forgiven, an accidental blend of rye and Bourbon whiskey.

Wild Turkey Forgiven will be re-released as a limited edition

Created after two batches of Wild Turkey Rye and Bourbon were mistakenly blended together, the special release was initially expected to be a one-off.

However the Kentucky-based distillery intends to release a second bottling, this time using intentionally-blended whiskey.

Wild Turkey Forgiven is comprised of 78% 6-year-old Bourbon and 22% 4-year-old rye that’s bottled at 45.5% abv – the same ratios and alcohol content as its predecessor.

The bottling will be available in limited quantities for an RRP of US$49.99.

According to Campari: “Wild Turkey Forgiven captured people’s interest and exceeded expectations. The response in the marketplace has been so positive, we’re continuing to roll out Wild Turkey Forgiven to meet demand.”

The launch coincides with the roll out of two new spots in Wild Turkey’s #NeverTamed TV marketing campaign, featuring master distiller Jimmy Russell.

The adverts, to be aired on ESPN and ESPN2, are the first time the distiller has been directly involved in television spots, let alone take centre stage.

As the longest-serving master distiller in the US, Russell is celebrating his 60th anniversary working with Wild Turkey Distillery this year.
