North Korea backs Scottish independence to trade whisky

North Korea has expressed its support for Scottish independence, so it can trade its natural resources for Scotch whisky.

North Koreans, such as leader Kim Jong-Un, are said to “like the taste of Scotch whisky”

Officials of the Pyongyang regime, led by Kim Jong-un, hope that if the people of Scotland vote “Yes” on 18 September, that greater trade ties will be made between North Korea and Edinburgh.

Speaking to The Telegraph, Choe Kwan-il, managing editor of the Pyongyang-backed Choson Sinbo newspaper, said: “I think that independence would be a very positive thing for Scotland.

“I believe independence will be positive as it will encourage personal exchanges and provide both countries with business chances.

“North Korea is rich in natural resources and we like the taste of Scotch whisky, so we can be beneficial to each other.”

The remarks come despite warnings from analysts, experts and several major Scotch whisky producers that independence would “severely” damage the industry.
