Martell celebrates 300th birthday with €10,000 Cognac
Pernod Ricard is celebrating the House of Martell Cognac’s 300th anniversary with the release of a limited edition €10,000 blend.
The €10,000 Martell Premier Voyage celebrates the Cognac house’s 300th anniversary next yearMartell Premier Voyage is a blend of 18 eaux-de-vie sourced from winegrowing families whose ancestors supplied Martell in 1735-1742.
Cellar master Benoît Fil further matured the blend in barrels crafted from a 300-year-old tree.
“The desire was to create a blend that reflected the journey and history of Jean Martell. We had access in our archives to the exact geographical locations that he went to. Therefore, we were able to visit the descendants of these winegrowers who today create the best quality eaux-de-vie.”
Just 300 Sèvres crystal decanters have been produced of Martell Premier Voyage, each accompanied by a minimalist steel artwork by French artist Bernar Venet.
“I was inspired by the date 1715, as the year that Louis XIV died and this great Cognac house was born,” said Venet.
“I have in the past created a sculpture around a statue of Louis XIV, and I wanted a sense of continuity with my work. The arches in the work represent this continuity, and a sense of time. The three arc clusters represent the three centuries that we are celebrating. There are so many parallels between Versailles, the birthplace of Art De Vivre, and Martell and with what I do.”
Each bottle will be individually numbered and signed, and will be available globally for an RRP of €10,000.
The House of Martell was founded in 1715 by Jean Martell.
