Freshers to spend £200 on alcohol in first week

Despite all-time high university fees, new students have been forecast to spend an average of £200 on alcohol and bar entry tickets during fresher’s week.

New research has revealed the new students spend an average of £200 during their first week at university

Citing data collated by vouchercodes.co.uk, The Telegraph reported that UK students starting university this year will spend around £215 during their first week of socialising, a significant increase compared to the £150 spent in 2013.

The research also shows that 69% of these new students will rely on funds from their parents to subsidise their first week of drinking and partying.

These figures will come as a surprise to some after the coalition government announced that university fees could be increased to a maximum of £9,000 a year in 2012.

In addition to their drinking budgets, vouchercodes.com found that new studetns would have already spent more than £1,000 on technology, beauty treatments and clothes.
