Bowmore releases second batch of Devil’s Cask
By Melita KielyIslay distillery Bowmore has launched the second batch of its much-lauded, limited edition Devil’s Casks range.
Bowmore launches second batch of its limited edition Devil’s Cask whiskyMatured solely in first-fill Sherry casks for 10 years and bottled at 56.3% abv, the single malt Scotch whisky is said to offer flavours of dark chocolate fudge infused with sherried dark fruit, sea salt and walnut oil, finishing with sun-dried raisins and salted treacle.
The second batch follows the original release of Devil’s Casks in time for Halloween last year, which sold out in record time.
“The first edition of this expression was one of the most sought after whiskies of 2013,” commented Rachel Barrie, master blender of Morrison Bowmore Distillers.
“This second small batch release will no doubt emulate that success thanks to its devilishly tasty dark side, in debt to the first-fill Sherry casks it has been carefully mellowed in.”
The Devil’s Cask whisky is named after a legend that says the Devil was once spotted and chased through the town, eventually hiding away in the distillery, but after searching the premises he was nowhere to be seen having escaped in a whisky barrel.
Just 90 cases will be available from specialist whiskey retailers at an RRP of £60 from specialist whisky retailers globally.
Bowmore’s owner, Morrison Bowmore Distillers, recorded 12% growth in sales in 2013 following increased investment in its single malt whisky portfolio, which also includes Auchentoshan, Glen Garioch and McClelland’s.
