John Lennon remembered with 40YO Scotch
Beatles legend John Lennon is set to have a 40-year-old single malt Scotch whisky named after him in 2020 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of his death.
Winston Elizabeth and Windsor collectibles company in Liverpool, UK, will be releasing a limited edition “John Lennon 40 year old whisky” to mark the anniversary on 8 December 2020.
“This huge project aims to be the perfect celebration of the life and works of one of the greatest musicians to ever live, and aims to have a global impact fitting of the man,” a spokesman for Winston Elizabeth and Windsor said. “It is fitting that Lennon will be honoured with 40-year-old whisky.
“We see the number 40 at the heart of this project for many reasons. Lennon was born in 1940 in the Wavertree area of Liverpool.
“He was tragically taken from us at the age of 40 in New York City, and the project will culminate on the 40th anniversary of his death in 2020.”
Lennon was fatally shot by Mark David Chapman on 8 December 1980 in the entrance hall to his building in New York.
Just 40 bottles of the limited edition named in his honour will be released, each presented in a black suede box with an 18-carat gold miniature guitar inside.
John Lennon’s widow, Yoko Ono, will be gifted with a bottle, Winston Elizabeth and Windsor said, with a further six bottles to be auctioned worldwide, and the last bottle, #40, to be sent to New York.
Bottles will pre-order this Christmas and are expected to sell for anything above US$4,000, with all proceeds from sales and auctions will go to charity.
The Spirits Business also understands that talks are currently underway to send a bottle of John Lennon 40YO Scotch into space.
