Texas distillery seeks Kickstarter funding
By Becky PaskinTexas’ Yellow Rose Distilling has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise US$25,000 for a new distillery and tasting room in Houston.
Yellow Rose has already installed an 8ft column still and 500 gallon pot still but is seeking additional funding through KickstarterHaving launched Houston’s first legal whiskey distillery in 2010, and launched its first whiskey in 2012, Yellow Rose has now “outgrown” its existing facilities.
With sales of alcohol by distilleries for on- and off-premise alcohol consumption now legal in the state, the micro-distillery plans to open a larger distillery, including a barrel room, bottling room and tasting room.
The group has already acquired a space in Houston’s Galleria area, and is currently installing its new equipment, including an 8ft artisan pot and column still.
“Being first isn’t easy; it takes a lot of patience and support,” the brand said on its Kickstarter page.
“The last few years have been fun, we’ve learned a lot but there is much more to accomplish. Getting the necessary permits from the City of Houston took longer than expected, but in early June we finally received approval to start the construction.
“We are about half way done with the initial phase and look forward to inviting everyone out for a tour and tasting come later this summer.”
Yellow Rose currently produces four whiskeys: Outlaw Bourbon, Straight Rye, Blended Whiskey and Double Barrel Bourbon.
The group intends to use its new equipment to experiment with new products in the future, as well as release a vodka.
Yellow Rose intends to use funds raised through Kickstater to kit-out the tasting room and fit the distillery, while any additional funds will be used to “improve the space”.
Donators will be rewarded with T-Shirts, an invitation to the launch party, a barrel-table, a distilling class, and bottles of Outlaw Maple Syrup.
