Royal Academy and Belvedere celebrate Martinis

The Royal Academy in London is celebrating the Martini cocktail by hosting Belvedere Vodka’s Legends of the Martini sensory sessions throughout August.

Belvedere Vodka is bringing its Legends of the Martini sensory sessions to London’s Royal Academy in August

Part of Belvedere’s Know the Difference campaign, Legends of the Martini is will run form 1-31 August, offering guests a sensory experience exploring and celebrating the Martini cocktail.

“The martini cocktail has had many manifestations throughout its development, and now holds a distinct image within popular culture,” said curator Tory Turk. “Its connotations evoke an invitation to a sophisticated lifestyle and Legends of the Martini opens the door into this world.

“From the roaring 20s, past the swinging sixties, through the 90s to the present day, it will highlight characters who have been known to enjoy a martini (or two) in their time.”

Guests will embark upon an interactive journey through the evolution of the Martini, exploring its significance in the life of each of the legends, from the likes of Ernest Hemmingway, James Bond and Kate Moss.

In addition, guests will have the opportunity to sample three flights, or miniature versions of Martinis at the Belvedere Martini bar, comparing different styles from shaken versus stirred, different vermouths and wet versus dry.

“The Martini is one of the world’s most iconic drinks, it is steeped with history and glamour, yet is extremely divisive,” said Claire Smith, head of mixology and spirit creation at Belvedere Vodka.

“We want to demystify the drink, helping people work out which Martini suits their palate and teaching them that there really is a Martini to suit everyone.”
