Record-breaking cocktail marks Commonwealth
By Amy HopkinsA “record-breaking” cocktail said to contain more ingredients than any other drink in the world has been created to celebrate the upcoming Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
A new cocktail containing a “record-breaking” 71 ingredients has been created to celebrate the Commonwealth GamesGlasgow-based bartender Mal Spence, of Kelvingrove Café, partnered with Glasgow City Marketing Bureau to create the Commonwealth Cocktail – a mix of 71 different ingredients sourced from each of the nations competing in the Commonwealth Games.
The bureau claims the drink has the greatest number of ingredients ever used in one cocktail. Ingredients included in the mix include: Jamaican okra, dragonfruit from Belize, cashew nuts from Sierra Leone, saffron from Pakistan, apples from England and Strawberries from Scotland.
“It’s been a case of trial and error as many of the combinations of ingredients just didn’t work – I went through over 300 different ingredients before finding the final perfect blend,” said Spence.
“I feel that the results are well worth it – the drink tastes great and is a celebration of all the nations and territories making their way to Glasgow this month.”
Kelvingrove Café will provide a limited run of 71 free Commonwealth Cocktails from 23 July. Click on the link below to see the mix being created.
