New Jack Daniel’s cooperage creates 200 jobs
By Melita KielyBrown-Forman and Jack Daniel’s officials celebrated the creation of more than 200 jobs at the opening of the new Jack Daniel Cooperage in Trinity, Alabama, US, on Monday.
The new Jack Daniel’s cooperage will produce approximately 700 barrels per day
The cooperage will produce solid American white oak barrels that are toasted and charred for maturing Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey.
The new facility is currently generating approximately 400 barrels per day, and is expected to increase production to 700 per day in the next few weeks.
The wood is sourced from Jack Daniel’s mills in Stevenson and Clifton in Tennessee.
“The American whiskey category is booming with exports of Tennessee Whiskey and Bourbon eclipsing the US$1 billion for the first time last year,” said John Hayes, senior vice president and managing director of Jack Daniel’s.
“We want to be able to satisfy the world’s thirst for our premium Tennessee whiskey, and having this state-of-the-art cooperage will help us meet that demand.
“We couldn’t be happier with this new facility and the great welcome we’ve received from the people of Alabama.”
A shortage of American oak has recently troubled the Bourbon industry, with distillers warning the Bourbon barrel shortage could last for up to two years.
