New internet domain name for bars launches

Bars and clubs across the globe can become part of a dedicated “online neighbourhood” with the use of a new .bar internet domain name.

A new .bar domain name has launched to make bars and clubs across the globe “more visible and easier to find”

The domain, launched by Mexico-based company Punto 2012, has been designed so that such venues can be categorized as bars and easily found by potential customers.

The .bar domain name will be launched in conjunction with a new domain name for restaurants, abbreviated to .rest, in order to create a space on the internet specifically for the food and drink industry.

Restaurant technology professionals designed the domains in a bid to make restaurants and bars “more relevant, visible and easier to find”.

“.rest and .bar will connect the food and beverage industry with customers online,” said Aaron Grego, CEO of Punto 2012.

“This is a perfect opportunity for businesses to grab a simple and easy-to-use domain name that describes their bar or restaurant with a descriptive name. Our industry needs to stand out online and be found – with .rest and .bar they can be.”

A number of restaurants, bars and brands are said to have already reserved .bar and .rest domains during trademark and early registrations.

The domains are part of a larger internet trend of domain endings categorising industries, making internet addresses simpler and more accessible for customers.

In April this year, a new .vodka domain name launched for vodka enthusiasts, brands and marketers.
