Gérard Depardieu plans to release eco vodka

French actor Gérard Depardieu is planning to release an environmentally friendly Russian vodka made from spring water, reports claim.

Gérard Depardieu is planning to make his first move into spirits production with the launch of an environmentally -friendly vodka

According to The Moscow Times, 65-year-old Depardieu, star of films including Cyrano de Bergerac and Life of Pi, is already known in the wine world for his various French wines.

“This will be my first experience with manufacturing spirits, and I hope it will be successful,” the actor said.

“Nevertheless, I would like to see as more people choose wine as their alcoholic beverage of choice.”

The Telegraph also reports that Depardieu plans to open three restaurants in Russia, the first of which will be called “Gérard” and will open in Moscow this October.

Another two restaurants are planned to open in St Petersburg and Saransk, Depardieu’s hometown.

Depardieu was granted Russian citizenship in January 2013. The actor famously renounced his French citizenship in response to President Francois Hollande’s attempt to impose a 75% tax on France’s millionaires.

Further details about Depardieu’s venture into spirits have yet to be confirmed.
