Diageo raises £50,000 to empower women

Female executives at Diageo raised over £50,000 to empower women in developing countries during a charity walk last week.

Six female executives at Diageo have raised £50,000 to empower women in developing countries

The six members of the Diageo Executive Committee took part in the Walk in her Shoes challenge, walking over 700,000 steps to raise money for Care International over the course of last week.

Deirdre Mahlan, CFO; Charlotte Lambkin, corporate relations director; Anna Manz, strategy director; Siobhan Moriarty, general counsel; Syl Saller, chief marketing officer and Leanne Wood, HR director, all took part in the challenge.

In order to exceed their target, they took part in “walk and talk” meetings around the grounds near Diageo’s UK headquarters, while treadmills were also imported into the cafeteria.

“In our everyday working lives, getting a drink of water is usually a case of taking a few automatic steps to the water cooler. It’s as easy as that,” said Syl Saller, CMO.

“It’s a harrowing thought that so many women in the world miss out on the chance to improve their future and their family’s prospects simply because their entire day is spent walking to collect something so vital to life, and that we take for granted.”

Care International is an organisation that works for the poor and vulnerable in some of the world’s poorest countries.
