Brown family named America’s richest spirits people

The Brown family, of spirits producer Brown-Forman, have been named as America’s wealthiest spirits billionaires in the new US Forbes Richest Families list.

With a fortune worth an estimated US$11.6 billion, The Browns – who hold the majority ownership of Brown-Forman, maker of Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey – came in 20^th place overall out of the 185 families listed.

The Wirtz family, owners of Wirtz Beverage Illinois, were also listed as one of America’s richest families, and came in 64^th place with a fortune worth an estimated US$4.2 billion.

In May, the Grant Gordon whisky family, who own William Grant & Sons, topped the list of Scotland’s richest families.

Five other UK spirits families were named as the UK’s top five richest spirits families according to The Sunday Times Rich List 2014.
