Bar slammed for potentially ‘lethal’ shots offer

A UK bar has been forced to pull a potentially “lethal” drinks promotion offering 42 shots for £105 following police criticism.

Police are investigating the “potentially lethal” offer of 42 shots for £105 in a Brighton bar

According to The Argus, Oxygen bar, in Brighton, has backtracked on the promotion after police accused owners of a “flagrant” breach of licensing laws.

With a poster reading: “Do you have the balls to handle Big Woody’s 42 shots”, the establishment was also criticised by Sussex Police for the “sexually aggressive” title of its promotion.

Jean Iriving, Sussex Police licensing and public safety manager, described the deal as “shocking” and said it had the potential to be lethal depending on the strength of the alcohol.

“The posters and flyers contain drinking challenges and deeply offensive terminology,” she told The Argus. “How can any responsible licensee possibly think this is acceptable?

“The venue has been contacted by licensing officers and told to remove these promotions immediately, and we are still considering our options regarding the flagrant breach of the Licensing Act 2003 mandatory Code for licensees which bans irresponsible drinks promotions.”

Brighton and Hove City Council said that police could seek a licensing review for the venue if it is found to have breached licensing laws.
