Kathlene Magday has been crowned winner of the UAE leg of the Monin Cup cocktail competition

Magday, bartender at the Mint Leaf of London, impressed a panel of judges with her The Black Jack cocktail, a mix of Monin’s green apple syrup, Jack Daniel’s honey, Hapsburg absinthe, lemon juice and ginger.

Fighting off competition from 15 other regional finalists, Magday also created a mocktail named the Mayday Monin Mystery using Monin passionfruit syrup, apple juice, tarragon leaves, lemongrass sticks, and grapefruit wedges.

The event, which was held at the JW Marriott Marquis Dubai, had a panel of six judges: Monin’s Andrea Fidora, Zuma bar manager Jimmy Barrat, Fresh Express brand manager Lasanthi de Silva, Atelier M bar manager Tomas Dundulis, MMI beverage training manager Nick Ord, Jose Cuervo brand ambassador Hirman Asnadi, and Patiala bar manager Archie Avinante.

Stephan Mases from Burj Al Arab was named runner up, while the second runner up position went to Ankush Kondal from JW Marriott Marquis, Dubai.

Magday will now represent the United Arab Emirates at the Monin Cup final late this year in France.
