American bartender Kate Gerwin soared to victory this week and was named winner of the 2014 Bols Around the World Bartending Championships with her cocktail, ‘Brown chicken, brown caracao’.
As always, the grand finale of the Bols Around the World Bartending Championships, which for the first time in its eight year history was webcast live, culminated in spectacular fashion with an innovative flair show by world champion flair artists, Tomek Malek and Marek Poluszny.
It’s been a busy week for Bacardi as it continues to push ahead with its Good Spirited campaign. This week saw more than 50 volunteers from the Bacardi Bottling Corporation in Jacksonville, Florida, clan together to prune and nurture dozens of black-eyed Susans and blanket flowers and ensure they continue to thrive. Chivas Brothers officially flung open the doors to its new multi-million pound visitor centre at its Beefeater gin distillery in London this week – the very first to be established in London.
Chivas Regal 25 was the official partner of The Rover film premiere party, which stars Australian actor Guy Pearce and Twilight heartthrob, Robert Pattinson. Hosted at La Gold Plage, guest rubbed shoulders with the show’s cast and director David Michôd at the official premiere party.
Luckily team sb have got a head for heights as they headed to London’s rooftop bar Sky Lounge at the Double Tree by Hilton of Tower of London to judge the most recent Wenneker Swizzle Masters round, Martini Reinvented. Mixing the drinks on the day was Sky Lounge’s general manager, Terrence Lundy, who made light work of recreating the 10 shortlisted recipes.
Bombay Sapphire Gin officially launched its gin-inspired pop-up this week at London’s Callooh Callay. Richard Woods, the UK and Ireland’s Most Imaginative Bartender, has been showcasing his re-imagined twist on the Bombay Sapphire Ultimate Gin and Tonic, called Mind Your Pease and Qs, made from Bombay Sapphire gin compressed with garden peas, mint and tonic water.
Cocobananas, a new Latin American beach party themed club in Battersea opened by Bunga Bunga owners Charlie Gilke and Duncan Stirling, celebrated its official launch party on Thursday. Celebrating everything Brazil, guests sipped on Leblon based Caipirinhas and the club’s signature cocktails, the Bum Bum, while street food nibbles such as authentic Kibe, Empadinh and grilled king prawns were dished out.
Travellers will be able to engage with Bombay Sapphire gin this summer thanks to a special high-profile promotion in Malaga Airport. The activation offers an in-store bar with bartenders on hand to recreate the perfect gin and tonic serve, with a Spanish twist, served over plenty of ice, with a twist of lemon and cinnamon stick.
The Rivoli Bar at The Ritz London has created a Cinderella-esque cocktail as part of its new summer menu. Tallulah, as it is called, is served in a bespoke glass slipper and is the work of head bartender Walter Pintus in commemoration of the moment in Ritz history when in 1951, American actress Tallulah Bankhead sipped Champagne from her slipper during a press conference to celebrate her arrival in the city.
Hal McRitchie-Pratt of La Raza in Cambridge has won the first heat of the Luxardo Campione challenge which launched Luxardo’s new Social Shake Campaign. McRitchie-Pratt was tasked with creating a cocktail from a mystery box of ingredients and beat off 11 other contenders with his drink, Cherry Beatdown.
