Rapper Pitbull files lawsuit over cocktail name
Rap star Pitbull is suing the New Amsterdam Spirits Company over the name of its vodka cocktail, The Pit Bull.
US rapper Pitbull is taking legal action against a spirits company over the name of its recommended vodka cocktail
According to TMZ, Pitbull, whose real name is Armando Christian Pérez, is taking legal action against the spirits producer, claiming that its recommended Pit Bull cocktail infringes on his own trademark and could confuse consumers.
The Give me Everything US rapper had his stage name trademarked in 2000. He is also the face of low-calorie vodka brand Voli Vodka, in which he owns a stake.
Pitbull is now demanding that the cocktail name be removed from New Amsterdam’s website and that he receive for compensations for profits gained.
The Pit Bull cocktail consists of New Amsterdam Vodka, fresh lime juice, red grapefruit juice and lemon-lime soda.
The California-based New Amsterdam Spirits Company is a subsidiary of E. & J. Gallo Winery.
