Kilchoman unveils latest Sherry cask Scotch
By Amy HopkinsIndependent Islay Scotch whisky distillery Kilchoman has unveiled the latest limited edition bottling in its Loch Gorm Sherry cask series.
Kilchoman has released a second Sherry cask-aged Scotch bottling as part of its limited edition Loch Gorm lineThe five-year-old Scotch is the second Loch Gorm Single Malt to be released by Kilchoman and is part of the distillery’s only line of all Sherry cask-matured whiskies.
It follows the launch of the first Loch Gorm whisky matured in Oloroso Sherry butts and finished in Oloroso Sherry hogsheads, which became available in April last year.
“Our sherry cask matured releases have proved very popular and this is the third and most mature to date so we anticipate this latest offering to be very well received,” said Anthony Wills, managing director of Kilchoman.
“Loch Gorm shows wonderful balance between the peat smoke and spicy rich flavours, typical of sherry cask maturation, producing a unique flavour which characterises Kilchoman whiskies.”
The range is named after the peaty loch from which Kilchoman draws its water.
Bottled at 46% abv, this latest Loch Gorm release is fully matured from filling to bottling in Oloroso sherry butts. Only 17,100 bottles are now available from specialist retailers at an RRP of £55-£59.
Each annual release of Loch Gorm is differentiated by a printed year of distillation and bottling on the label.
The Kilchoman distillery itself was built and founded in 2005 by Wills on a farm on the west coast of Islay. It is currently the island’s youngest distillery.
