By Melita KielyPernod Ricard’s Plymouth Gin held an eye-opening comparative gin tasting session on Thursday at one of London’s finest hotels, The Savoy, to coincide with its latest bar activation at Heathrow Airport.
The new copper still bar for Plymouth Gin has been set up in Heathrow Airport and is the French drinks group’s biggest travel retail activation yet. Travellers will be able to attend masterclasses and learn how to recreate some classic Plymouth Gin cocktails, including the Hedgrow Slider, Marguerite and Gimlet.
Speakeasy-style bar Barts, London, celebrated its fifth birthday on Wednesday with a lavish event sponsored by Glenmorangie.
Tod’s Flagship Boutique teamed up with Mr Fogg’s in Mayfair to co-host an evening to celebrate travel. Guests sipped a selection of Glenfiddich cocktails while enjoying a lively performance from Mr B (above left) who entertained guests for the night.
Tucked below Harild and Sons in Farringdon Street, East London, new speakeasy-style cocktail and whisky bar 5CC held its official launch night on Wednesday, and provided an evening full of delicious canapés, cocktails and whisky.
With St Patrick’s Day just around the corner, Tullamore D.E.W. is celebrating with the addition of four hand crafted copper stills as it prepares for the widely anticipated opening of its new distillery in Tullamore, Ireland.
Our managing editor Becky Paskin popped into the Megaro Bar photography room for a barrel-aged gin tasting session, organised by Maverick Drinks, where she got the chance to sample a selection of barrel-aged gins from the UK and US, including Smooth Ambler, Filliers, Few Spirits and Professor Cornelius Ampleforth.
It was with a heavy heart that the only female pair in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge 2013, Hannah Lawton, 25, and Lauren Morton, 24, were forced to pull out of the race 1,000 miles into the challenge. The duo was racing in memory of a friend who died of cervical cancer. The competition was won by British team Locura Rows the Atlantic who completed the race in 41 days, 2 hours, 38 minutes and 54 seconds

Ballantine’s provided a cocktail master class to celebrate its new spirit drink – Ballantine’s Brasil. Our staff writer Melita Kiely stopped off at Callooh Callay in Shoreditch for the event where brand ambassador Fredrik Olsson gave guests a hands-on experience of how to recreate a series of cocktail recipes inspired by Scotland and infused with a taste of Brasil.
