Team SB headed to Soho this week for the opening night of the highly anticipated Sipsmith 100 Martini Bar, curated by Sipsmith’s master distiller Jared Brown and hosted at the Apartment at Kettner’s.
Prowein opened its doors this week to almost 200 spirits producers celebrating 20 years of exhibitions and SB’s advertising manager Marcus Clark was there to soak up the atmosphere.
Never one to shy away from the spotlight, SB‘s advertising manager Marcus Clark showed he knows his way around a cocktail shaker as he dabbled in mixology behind the bar at Prowein.
The London heat of the Domaine de Canton Ginger Liqueur International Bartender of the Year competition took place at London’s Made in the Shade this week and saw Joey Medrington of The London Cocktail Club and Alex Dyzart of The Royal Oak make it through to the UK final in April. The UK winner will have the opportunity to travel to the French West Indies for the chance to win $10,000.
Matthias Cadeac D’Arbaud, owner of Bar Zelda in Paris and Don Papa ambassador, Nicci Stringfellow, of Marblehead, and Stephen Carroll, founder of Don Papa Rum introduced Philippine Don Papa rum to the London on-trade at The Rum Kitchen, Notting Hill, on Tuesday during a special pre-launch event.
Some whisky fans have expressed concern over the price of the new Mortlach single malt whisky range from Diageo. We had a privileged opportunity to taste the range this week, and can safely say they are worth every penny. The Special Strength (travel retail only) and 25 Year Old were our favourites.
Mr Fogg, London, threw a classic American knees-up hosted in association with Bulleit Bourbon and Bulleit Rye. Entertaining guests on the night was Louisville-inspired band, Broadoak Bluegrass Band, who played a range of old American songs at the Kentucky Derby Day Parade.
The Albion Racing Club returned from its inaugural race this weekend, the Alpine Run 2014, Meribel or Bust, but unfortunately the team’s vintage Land Rover only made it as far as Epernay before gearbox problems forced them to find an alternative means of transport to the Alps.
During the 700 mile journey the team made a pit stop at Chateau d’Ige in Burgundy to sample some of Albion Racing Club’s British Spiced Malt, before preparing to depart for the final ascent into the mountains.
The Albion Racing Club team found time to sample the adrenaline rush of riding the Olympic Bobsleigh experience at La Plagne. According to sources, the general consensus was that while it was an incredible experience, it was one not to be repeated; truly terrifying.
Three UK bartenders battled it out at the final of the Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum #DiscoverRum cocktail competition held at the Discount Suit Company. Impressing on the night and winning the trip of a life time to Jamaica for both himself and his bar team was Shem Gordon of Radio Bar London.
