Melrose Umbrella Company – Los Angeles, USA

In the space previously occupied by The Foundry, Melrose Umbrella Company has taken the building back to its 1930s roots paying homage to the post-Prohibition era with Zach Patterson and Julian Cox’s inspired cocktails. The old world aesthetic sits nicely on theme with chandeliers, 1920s fireplaces and an apothecary cabinet bar.

Bar 54 in the Hyatt – New York, USA

On the 54th floor of the new Hyatt Times Square Hotel, this rooftop lounge has some serious views. But it’s the cocktails that get people talking, thanks to lauded Julie Reiner (of Flatiron and Clover Club fame), who has created a ‘locally-inspired’ list using fresh ingredients and plenty of house-made bitters, syrups and tinctures. There’s seating for 122, including on the outside terrace, kept warm by cosy fires.

Made in the Shade – London, UK

There’s always something excellent in store when a well-known bartender opens his own place, and local cocktail making legend Jim Wrigley’s new Hoxton St joint is no exception. He’s teamed up with Jeremy Thompson Jewitt and Peter Lewis to bring perfectly drinkable drinks along with Caribbean inspired soul food and friendly vibes to what will no doubt be a new stop on the bartender pilgrimage around town.

L’Aiglon – Singapore

With an opulent Paris-meets-the-East aesthetic, this 76-seater bar feels indulgent thanks to former fashion photographer-turned-bar owner Pierre-Emmanuel Plassart’s well-travelled sense of style. Diageo Reserve World Class winner Louis Tan is making his mark on the bar with consistently well-balanced cocktails. The bar bites, like the décor, are Asian-French fusion and just as impressive.

Lockwood – Paris, France

This is the sort of place that people keep secret. Lockwood is a laidback artisan coffee shop by day, but by night, head down the back stairs to discover a rocking underground cocktail bar. Located in 16th century vaults, it’s lit by candelabras which add to the atmosphere. Come for the small plates and craft cocktails.
