Giant oak headphones created by Bushmills

Bushmills Irish whiskey has created the world’s largest barrel oak headphones to showcase at its indie music festival later this year.

Bushmills has created the world’s largest set of barrel oak headphones to mark Bushmills Live 2014, which will be headlined by The 1975

Made by two local artists using almost a dozen giant whiskey barrels, the headphones stand at over 10 feet high and will play music from the Diageo-owned brand’s Bushmills Live  2014 music concert.

This creation follows the unveiling of a limited edition line of headphones made from Bushmills whiskey barrels by Hollywood actor-tuned-DJ Elijah Wood and his music partner Zach Cowie.

Taking place on 11-12 June, Bushmills Live 2014 will see 700 fans enjoy an array of whiskey and music at the Old Bushmills Distillery on the north coast of Ireland.

Bushmills Irish whiskey master distiller Colum Egan said: “We’re looking forward to throwing open the doors of the distillery and welcoming friends, old and new, to come and enjoy the handcrafted whiskey and music on offer at Bushmills Live 2014.”

The festival was launched in 2012 to cement the distillery’s association with the music industry, which has since seen other limited edition musical items created from Bushmills barrels.

In October 2012, Bushmills auctioned a guitar made from whiskey barrels, owned by Bon Iver frontman Justin Vernon, for charity.

British band The 1975 have been announced as the festival’s headline act on 12 June.

“We’ve never played a show in a distillery before so it’s a first for us. We’ve gigged all over the place but to play a festival like this, in a setting as unique as this, will be pretty special,” said the band’s lead singer, Matthew Healy.

The rest of the line-up for Bushmills Live 2014 has yet to be announced.

Tickets will not go on general release, but fans can win a chance to attend the festival by entering a draw at www.facebook.com/bushmills.
