Bar creates interactive cocktail-making kit

As experts predict a surge in innovation in the cocktail world in 2014, London Cocktail Club has gone one step further with the launch of a flat pack interactive cocktail-making kit.

Inspired by the famous flat packs of IKEA, the London Cocktail Club has designed an innovative way to create a more inclusive cocktail experience for its customers.

Described as ideal ice breakers on first dates or for those looking to dabble in the art of cocktail making for the first time, the kits comes complete with all the necessary ingredients and equipment.

Inside each box, customers will find step-by-step instructions, miniature bottles of alcohol, a cocktail shaker, glasses and a ready-made garnish.

“We thought we’d have a bit of fun with the IKEA flat pack idea,” said JJ Goodman, founder of London Cocktail Club.

“It’s about making mistakes and feeling comfortable on your own and also about having that emotional connection with what you’re making. The response has been unreal.”

After reading an article on how people can feel more attached to a piece of furniture from IKEA that they assembled themselves, compared to a vintage antique that had been in the family for generations, Goodman and his team went about creating the kit in order to give customers something they could connect with.

However, he believes the new interactive kits are not a step away from the theatricality of cocktail making; consumers still want the traditional experience of going to a bar and being served by a bartender.

“I think 90% still want a bar for the classic reasons of going to a bar, they want to get lost in their day-to-day lives,” he explained, “I think it’s just about understanding really. I don’t think people would necessarily prefer to make their own drinks.

“But people become more and more fascinated by craft and people like an experience and something they can stick on social media pages. So to be able to create something yourself, when they actually finish the drink there’s a genuine sense of satisfaction.”

The London Cocktail Club flat pack cocktail kit is available for £20 from the London Cocktail Club and serves two drinks per box.
