New data links spirits and political beliefs
By Amy HopkinsTypes of spirits enjoyed by US consumers correlates to their political leanings, new research has suggested.
New research has revealed that Democrats prefer white spirits while Republicans favour dark liquorsThe data, gathered by consumer research group GFK MRI, shows that Democrats are more likely to consume white spirits and Republicans prefer darker liquor.
In particular, while Democrats were found to enjoy Grey Goose, Absolut and Smirnoff vodkas, brands favoured by Republicans include Jim Beam Bourbon and Crown Royal whisky.
Rum was also found to be the most neutral spirit, enjoyed by voters of both political persuasions.
Other bipartisan brands included Johnnie Walker Black and Segram’s 7 Crown blended whisky.
The study also found that alcohol preferences correlated to how likely a consumer is likely to vote in the first place, identifying wine-drinkers as more likely to vote than spirits-drinkers.
In addition, Democrats were found to drink a wider variety of spirits, while Republicans enjoy a smaller variety of stronger, darker spirits.
The data was analysed Republican consultancy firm National Media Research Planning and Placement.
