It has been announced that Martin Miller, co-founder of Martin Miller’s Gin, died on Christmas Eve aged 67 after a short battle with cancer.

In a statement released by brand-owners The Reformed Spirits Company, Miller was described as a “true renaissance man” who desired to create a “gin revolution” with his eponymous brand.

Miller launched Martin Miller’s Gin in 1999 in collaboration with two friends Andreas Versteegh and David Bromige in order to breath new life into the gin category, which Miller believed was being outpaced by vodka.

A spokesperson for The Reformed Spirits Company said: “Martin’s dream was to pass on his own love of gin to a whole new generation of gin lovers.

“Within Martin Miller’s Gin, he was an inspiration and a genius. An iconoclast and a genuine English eccentric. These days much copied but never equaled.”

In addition his gin brand, Miller also dedicated his skills to numerous other projects, including an antiques and hotel business, as well as his London-based Miller’s Academy of Arts and Science.

Martin Miller’s Gin has gained in worldwide popularity since its launch, winning a Master and Gold award at The Spirits Business’ Gin Masters last July.
