A 38-year-old man has been charged for operating a moonshine distillery out of his home

Carey Klotz, 38, of Brandon, Mississippi, is currently being remanded in custody in the Rankin County jail.

He has been charged with possession of illegal distillery and misdemeanour possession of moonshine and bonded liquor.

The bail for the misdemeanour has been set at US$500 but none has yet been set for the possession of the illegal distillery.

Mississippi News Now said officers confirmed it was a concerned resident who discovered the stash and called Brandon police.

The authorities then alerted Alcohol Beverage Control who confiscated 15 mason jars of moonshine, 23 bottles of bonded whisky, a mash, two small cookers and a 55-gallon barrel discovered hidden in a wardrobe.

Klotz is due to appear at Brandon City Court on 22 January.
