Bols Around the World seeks 2014 entries

Dutch liqueurs and genever group Lucas Bols has begun its search for the “world’s most visionary bartender”, with the launch of the eighth annual Bols Around the World competition.

Rusty Cerven from the UK was the 2013 winner of Bols Around the World

The cocktail competition, which attracts thousands of entries every year, is inviting bartenders from 18 regions around the world who consider themselves to be risk takers, to enter.

Entrants are required to develop a new cocktail that “must inspire other bartenders, be innovative yet easy to replicate, and enticing for guests”, before creating an entire drinks menu inspired by their new drink. Those with the highest scores will be invited to present their drink and cocktail menu in a two-minute video, where they must convince judges how they have created a new cocktail trend.

The competition features three heats and will culminate in the semi-finals and grand final in Amsterdam on 16-20 May 2014.

The winner will receive a trip to four of the world’s best cocktail cities and work in local bars as a guest bartender. They will also be given the opportunity to join Lucas Bols as a brand representative at trade shows and events.

The 2013 winner was Rusty Cerven from the UK’s Connaught Bar.

Ara Carvallo, Lucas Bols global brand manager, said: “Bols Around the World is all about passionate bartenders, their lifestyle, and their career. It provides a stage to share creativity and develop global contacts and exposes bartenders to different cultures and influences, resulting in lasting friendships and potentially the opportunity to work in other bars around the world.”
