Glenmorangie unearths rare single malt from the 1960s

Moët Hennessy’s Glenmorangie has released one of its most limited single malts to date – the Glenmorangie 1963.

Only 50 bottles of Glenmorangie 1963 remain, 20 of which will be available to purchase in the US for US$2,600

First distilled in 1963 and bottled in 1987, only 50 bottles of this limited edition remain, 20 of which will be available to purchase in the US at an RRP of US$2,600.

The new release will be offered in a 1960s-style bottle that is engraved with a unique number and features the brand’s original label.

Each bottle is presented in a time-capsule-style metal box which has a polished wood interior and contains a hand-signed note by Glenmorangie master distiller Dr Bill Lumsden. The labels, collar and cork are made of .925 silver.

“Glenmorangie 1963 is a unique opportunity for aficionados to sample a truly ground-breaking single malt whisky,” said Lumsden. “It marked the first venture into extra-maturation, so it’s a real slice of history for collectors.

“This is a phenomenal whisky capable of transporting those lucky enough to sample it back in time to the heady days of 1963.”

Glenmorangie 1963 is described as offering notes of coconut, vanilla and cherries on the nose, and peaches, caramelised oranges, Demerara sugar, nutmeg and walnuts on the palate.

The limited edition will be available to purchase from top end whisky stores and whisky specialists.

The company also announced that the public had chosen the name and cask of another recently launched Glenmorangie expression.
