Clipper yacht race launch for Old Pulteney Navigator

Inver House Distillers has used the start of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race as an opportunity to launch a new limited edition Old Pulteney Scotch inspired by the brand’s maritime heritage.

The sponsor of one of 12 super yachts in the 2013/14 Clipper Race fleet has created the Old Pulteney Navigator to “pay homage to the skill and sense of adventure found amongst the maritime community”.

A blend of ex-Sherry and Bourbon casks, Old Pulteney Navigator is bottled at 46% abv and is described as full bodied with hints of honey, cocoa and orange.

The first case of the limited edition Scotch has been placed aboard the Old Pulteney Clipper yacht, which is making its way around the world via Brest in northern France, then across the Atlantic Ocean to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, with skipper Patrick van der Zijden at the helm.

Margaret Mary Clarke, senior brand manager for Old Pulteney, said: “The start of the Clipper Round the World Race is the perfect way for us to release this wonderful whisky which brings Old Pulteney’s unique seafaring identity to life.”

Old Pulteney Navigator will be released in the UK and the US on 16 September at an RRP of £39.99 for a 700ml bottle. The expression will become available in other global markets in limited volumes in early 2014.

The Scottish drinks group, which also produces Caorunn gin and Balblair single malt, saw profits drop in its 2012 financial results, although Inver House hailed the year as a milestone for the Old Pulteney brand, which saw global volume rise by 16.2% and sales value by 24.7%.
