Wild Turkey releases ‘accidental’ expression

Wild Turkey will release an accidental blend of Bourbon and high-proof rye as a limited edition expression called Wild Turkey Forgiven.

Wild Turkey Forgiven will be released as a limited edition late summer

The result of a mistake made by a company crew member, the expression will be the first nationally available 45.5% abv small batch Bourbon and rye whiskey in the US.

The expression, made from a combination of 78% 6-year-old Bourbon and 22% 4-year-old rye aged in American oak barrels, is said to have notes of vanilla, oak, and a peppery cinnamon finish.

Associate master distiller for Wild Turkey, Eddie Russell, said: “Wild Turkey is known for its uncompromising quality and taste in every Bourbon and rye expression we make. Much to the distillery team’s relief, Forgiven highlights the best of both worlds to create a one-of-a-kind taste that will appeal to both Bourbon and rye aficionados.

The name of the expression is said to derive from the ‘forgiven’ mistake of the Wild Turkey employee.

Andrew Floor, group brand director for Wild Turkey, highlighted the recent growth of the rye category in the US which he said is the result of bartenders using the spirit in cocktails.

“As both Bourbon and rye categories continue to witness broad expansion worldwide, Wild Turkey will maintain its commitment to creating high-quality products that have been the brand’s signature for more than 100 years, while exploring new and interesting whiskies that appeal to bartenders and consumers alike.”

Wild Turkey Forgiven will be available to consumers in the US from late summer at an RRP of US$49.00.
