Woodford Reserve Four Wood gets UK and Australia release
By Becky PaskinBacardi Brown-Forman is releasing its Woodford Reserve Four Wood from its acclaimed Master’s Collection, in the UK and Australia, as it seeks to drive visibility for the Bourbon brand.
Woodford Reserve Four Wood was first launched in the US in November 2012Released in the US in November 2012, Woodford Reserve Four Wood is a limited edition bottling continuing the distillery’s exploration into flavour. With each release from the Master’s Collection, one of the five sources of flavour – grain, water, fermentation, distillation and maturation – is changed to create a new flavour profile.
The seventh release in the Master’s Collection, Woodford Reserve Four Wood has a particular focus on maturation. Aged in American oak barrels, the whiskey is then finished in maple, oloroso Sherry and ruby Port casks before being blended together and bottled at 47.2% abv.
“This year’s Master’s Collection brings together a unique combination of exotic wood (Maple) and fortified wine (Port and Sherry) in a complex interplay of flavours unsurpassed in our craft,” said Woodford Reserve master distiller Chris Morris. “The batching ratios of the three finishing barrels were painstakingly chosen so that no one character dominated the final product. Instead, Four Wood is so balanced that the palate effects of each of the four woods plays a discernible role in the final flavour presentation.”
Described as having walnut and caramel notes from the Sherry cask, and maple, berry fruit and baking spice from the maple and ruby port, the Four Wood joins Four Grain, Sonoma-Cutrer Finish, Sweet Mash, Seasoned Oak, Maple Wood Finish and Rare Rye Selection in the Master’s Collection.
The release is restricted in the UK to just 500 cases, with an RRP of £120 for a 700ml bottle. Likewise, it will only be available to select venues in the on-trade in Australia at an RRP of AUS$225.
