Jose Cuervo appoints new Ireland & Canada distributors

Proximo Spirits has appointed The Kirkwood Group to handle the distribution of the Jose Cuervo brand in Canada.

The distribution of Jose Cuervo Tequila has been taken over from Diageo by a variety of agencies since 1 July 2013

The premium Tequila brand’s distribution was previously handled in the country by Diageo, but the UK-based drinks group decided to end its ties with Jose Cuervo as of 30 June 2013.

While Proximo Spirits was appointed distributor of the brand in North America, the New Jersey-based group has further appointed The Kirkwood Group – which already looks after the bulk of Proximo Spirits’ brands in Canada – to handle Jose Cuervo north of the border.

“We are thrilled to represent Jose Cuervo and build upon the already successful relationship we have with Proximo,” said Peter Kirkwood, national sales manager for The Kirkwood Group.   “We look forward to expanding the brand’s sales and marketing opportunities across the country and giving Canadians additional opportunities to savour a brand they know and love.”

Proximo Spirits claims the addition of Jose Cuervo to its portfolio will double the size of its business in Canada, which is currently led by The Kraken spiced rum, Three Olives vodka and 1800 Tequila brands.

Proximo has also announced the appointment of Febvre & Company as distributors of its entire portfolio, including Jose Cuervo, in the Republic of Ireland.
With the departure of Diageo, Jose Cuervo is now also distributed by Proximo in the UK, Think Spirits in Australia, Zamora Group in Spain, Edward Snell & Co in sub-Sahara Africa, Jose Cuervo International in European travel retail.
