Wemyss Fife Distillery build begins

Building work has started on the Kingsbarns Distillery in Fife, which was taken over by the Wemyss family in January.

William Wemyss and Doug Clement begin work on The Kingsbarn Distillery

The single malt distillery and visitors’ centre will be within view of the world-famous Kingsbarns Golf Links and just six miles from St. Andrews.

On the build-up to gaining the final planning permission, William Wemyss said: “It’s been a busy few months working with Historic Scotland, Fife Council planners and a team of architects, designers and engineers to get to this point where we can start to turn the plans into reality.”

Local Fife man and founding director of the Kingsbarns Distillery, Douglas Clement, has been working on the project for a number of years and said it was great to see the work begin.

Work is expected to take around a year to complete and will welcome visitors as distilling begins in summer 2014.
