Absolut Mexico’s Balam design by Dr LakraAlso known as Jeronimo Lpoez Ramirez, Dr Lakra is best known for tattooing existing images of 1950s Mexican pin-up girls and wrestlers.
Absolut commissioned the Oaxaca, Mexico-based artist to create three unique, modern bottle designs celebrating ‘the spirit of Mexico’ for the latest in its line of limited edition collaborations with renowned artists.
The three designs include icons from ancient Mayan culture – Hurakan (hurricane), Kulkulkan (serpent) and Balam (jaguar), all of which are depicted in bright colours of orange, green, blue and yellow.
Each design has also been created as collectors art pieces, as well as for the limited line of Absolut bottles.
“For Absolut Vodka, no one was a better choice for our collaboration than Dr. Lakra, with his technique of weaving in the design of existing objects, and in this case, an Absolut Vodka bottle,” said Maxime Kouchnir, vice-president of vodkas, Pernod Ricard US.
“Absolut Mexico aims to further inspire cocktail lovers with the Absolut brand, connecting the versatility of our vodka to the vibrant Mexican culture, which this design’s stunning effect does perfectly.”
Past collaborations have included a design for Absolut Brooklyn with director Spike Lee. Last year Absolut created a line of four million completely individual bottle designs for its range Absolut Unique. Watch a video of how the Pernod Ricard-owned group created the range by clicking here.
